'there's a place inside'
* acrylic, watercolour, liquid ink & charcoal pencil

Tuesday, 30 May 2017

this painting began around 6 month ago
according to my instagram account
it sat unfinished for around 3 month
which often seems to be my way.

i picked it up again around 11 week ago

on a starry night. adding a few little touches.

'You know why trees smell the way they do? Stars. Trees breathe in starlight
year after year, and it goes deep into their bones. So when you cut a tree open, you
smell a hundred years’ worth of light. Ancient starlight that took millions of years
to reach earth. That’s why trees smell so beautiful and old.'
~ Frances O’Roark Dowell.

* acrylic & liquid ink on acrylic paper. approx. 10 x 7 inches.

a prayer flag . .

slowstitched with starlight & the quiet breath of earthsleep.

gathered together in those dark hours while all was sleeping.

the first one i've made, handsewn with care, sitting
in the quiet of a lilac tree where the winds can carry its prayers.

* made with cotton & silk fabrics, thread, ribbon, and amethyst & glass beads.

cloth skies

there was a piece of cloth. twinkling at me
as i walked by an oddments basket outside a fabric shop. i tried to ignore it
but it tugged at me. starlight in a basket.
woven silk and cotton. strong and soft. i took it home.
it sat for a while. quietly tugging at me. whispering.

so i took a trip over to 'Spirit Cloth' to visit Judes 'Feel Free'
and watched her creating some 'threadbeads'.
above is my first attempt.
it was so nice sitting, pulling my scattered-self together.
immersed in starlight and winter moss

the beginning of the new year i sat
and slow-stitched a moon shadow, listening
to the rain pattering on a corrugated roof, while earth slept.

the threadbeads became more starlike
on a wintercold starry night.

there was more.
the rhythm. the quiet sound of thread flowing through cloth.

i don't know where it's going.
but i like how it feels.
